Dear Parishioners,
The Church gives us the holy season of Lent to help us prepare our hearts to experience the risen Christ at Easter. Through the three pillars of Lent – prayer, fasting and almsgiving – we are prompted to engage in a sort of “spiritual housekeeping” to root out the sin that so often takes hold of our lives.

This month our Adult Education program will continue with Fr. Robert Barron's "Catholicism" DVD series. Please join us on Sundays from 9:50 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in Malta Hall. There is no registration required, and it is not necessary to attend all ten sessions in order to benefit from the program.

Ash Wednesday - February 22nd - marks the beginning of Lent and is a day of universal fast and abstinence. The following fast/abstinence regulations are observed throughout Lent:
Abstinence from meat on Ash Wednesday (February 22nd), on all the Fridays of Lent and on Good Friday (April 6th) by all Catholics 14 years of age and older.
Fasting on Ash Wednesday (February 22nd) and Good Friday (April 6th) by all Catholics who are 18 to 59 years of age. This translates to one main meal and two smaller meals.

If you attended Mass the weekend of January 28th/29th at any church in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, you no doubt heard the letter from Archbishop Gregory regarding the recent decision by the federal Department of Health and Human Services mandating health insurance coverage to include sterilizations, abortion-inducing drugs and contraceptives. A copy of the letter is included below.
